Microsoft Deal With Open Source Developer Red Hat

By admin | Feb 17, 2009

Microsoft has signed a deal with Red Hat that will increase virtualization compatibility between Windows and Linux. This marks an important step which will enhance interoperability between the platforms where in mixed environments both are used.

Red Hat is the leading distributor for business users of open source systems. Although Microsoft has not opened their arms to open source, but by working with Red Hat allows that their software packages work on either of their systems.

Microsoft’s past refusal to collaborate with Red Hat has cost them business opportunities. Even though Microsoft publicly maintains that linux based technologies infringe on their patents and that Red Hat has never backed down on its position on intellectual property issues, surprisingly none of this is referenced in the agreement.

If Microsoft is starting to warm up to open source, the probable reason would be the ever changing customer demands. This virtualization deal is a win situation for both Microsoft and Red hat, as well as their customers.
